AGUIRRE "Calvaire" CD (digi)
Badass sludge from France - new record!! Super cool digi-pack format. For fans of EYEHATEGOD, GRIEF, NOOTHGRUSH, IRON MONKEY, HIS HERO IS GONE, UNION OF URANUS.
Tracklisting:

2. (...) 08:48
3. Blisster 06:41
4. I Die 11:19
Review from MetalRage.com:
The French metal scene is gradually catching up with the rest of the world, yet the underground already has some pearls to offer. Aguirre is one of them, they have just released their debut full length Calvaire, after just one split record with Hongo from Spain and a demo. Get ready for some sludgy doom metal!
Aguirre play painful, dragging sludge/doom metal, music that gets you down so to speak. A massive wall of distorted sound conveying depressing riffs and haunted vocals is what you find on Calvaire. Overall the record listens away pretty easily, the production is not that raw yet also not too smooth. Just massively loud, depressed and haunted. Especially in the vocal area you hear a clear state of discomfort, just like it should be!
Fans of a decent slab of slow, depressed sludge/doom should definitely check out Aguirre. It’s not highly original or ground-breaking, but the overall sound is pleasant enough to listen to and the quality of the songs themselves is more than decent. Doom yourself into a depression with Calvaire! » view product details |

AQUILONIAN / SOLLUBI split CD
The first half of the CD is 35 minutes of sorrow from AQUILONIAN, the new band from Michael Makela (guitar/vox) and Michael Henry (drums/vox) from BONGZILLA!! We can't remove the 70' influences and the stoner vibes from the guys of Bongzilla and we know it. You can expect something in the vein of SLEEP's Jerusalem. The second part of the cd is another 35 minutes by SOLLUBI. Heavy, noisy and mean!! More angry than the first album. Jesse (Rape X) bring all the violence and hate with his vocals while the guys of Fistula bring the sludge!

BENEATH THE FROZEN SOIL / NEGATIVE REACTION split CD
This split presents a bitter and unforgiving struggle between the raw blackened Doom Metal of Swedish Doomsters Beneath The Frozen Soil, and the well-known hateful Sludge of New York's gods, Negative Reaction. There are no winners in this dirty Battle, just fifty bleeding and harsh minutes straight from the most unpleasant side of the genre…Expect for totally punishing experience! Limited to 1000 copies.
Negative Reaction give any band in the sludge/doom scene a kick in the ass. One of the heaviest bands around today, NR uses feedback as a hammer and the guitars tuned to A as the stake. Don't be alarmed though, this band writes songs with feeling and heart to match creativity and give the listener one hell of a time. They can tear through a fast number as well as a slow one, which will make you think you're listening to a combination of Grief, Black Sabbath and Napalm Death. Negative Reaction released their first seven inch in 1993 and are still going strong. Discover the heaviest band, the Gods of Sludge... NEGATIVE REACTION! » view product details |

BLACK SHAPE OF NEXUS "Microbarome Meetings" CD
Total drone. This disc is a collection of four unique improvisations, all recorded in one evening by Germany’s B*SON. The first improv is along the lines of SUNN; a hypnotic, heavy, distorted sludge fest. The second is full of overlapping loops & delays, which builds louder & denser at a snail’s pace, eventually incorporating percussive string jabs. The third incorporates feedback, leading into a low end distorted hum, accented by cleanly plucked notes over the din. The fourth and final track is closer to a full bore noise track than a drone, with thumping heartbeat percussion, and ghostly whisps of feedback and vocals. I didn’t realize this label was still around (Matthias has got to be going on over 20 years by now). High quality cover with copper ink & cool graphics; classy & a wee bit arty, not unlike a Southern Lord release. Handnumbered edition of 600 copies. 67 minutes worth of high quality sounds to zone-out to. » view product details |

CABLE "Skyhorse Jams" CD
The Connecticut monsters of noise are back with an incredibly disturbing slab o' sonic mayhem. At first, Cable's music tends to lull you into believing everything is all right. Then, out of nowhere, it pops out from behind the couch and place a razor to your throat. True aggression fitting for a modern society.
Cable has a dirty fuzzed out southern rock sound with simple guitar riffs and soul... Just good ol' heavy rock and roll. Thick and heavy grooves that remind me of bands like Suplecs and Dixie Witch, much of the same approaches and raspy vocals that are more reminiscent to Dixie Dave of Weedeater more so than Trinidad of Dixie Witch...also kind of reminds me of Mississippi Sludge with a tinge of Eyehategod. These guys are heavy and loud...obvious whiskey drinkers and sludge lovers. Get this one for some good southern mud done right. (StonerRock.com) » view product details |

DESOLATEVOID "Self Medicated Pyscho Therapy" CD
Lawdy, lawdy, cover your ears and protect your privates, DESOLATEVOID ain't foolin' around. That such a quality dish of battery acid and pit bull balls has been released on one of the premier crust punk and grind labels, Crimes Against Humanity, is not surprising. While "Self Medicated Psycho Therapy" is not exclusively a crust or grindcore album, bits of both genres are mixed into the putrid stew. Hell, there's enough crust covering this black-toothed sludge metal bitch to bake the world's largest apple pie. Consider an album that is anchored in a more straight ahead SOILENT GREEN, sucks the bone marrow out of EYEHATEGOD, and smokes up a little HIGH ON FIRE (the latter two both acknowledged influences). Maybe then you'll understand why this shit is too heavy for the candy asses among you. » view product details |

DESOLATEVOID / LAST VAN ZANT / PARISH 3 way split CD
A new found buddy of mine sent this my way to review, he usually sends me the black and death stuff but along comes this sludge three-way that he felt I might like and I was sold after skimming through the Desolate Void tracks. 30 Seconds was all it took to convince me that this was one of those audio stains that I didn’t want to get out of my brain. No pussy grass stains (unless we’re talking about a different type of grass): this one is blood, sweat, mud, and beer; the true markings of the sludgehead.
In the Desolate Void tracks, all five, there is nothing but fast paced endorphin raging: Acid Bath/EyeHateGod/Black Tusk/Black Cobra, screeching and growling over a fist clenching storm of blazing fast riffs and bar room brawl inducing metal here. Southern Fried and greasy, steaming and dripping with the stench of horrid heat, hangovers and one hell of a wild night out, don’t blame me or these guys if you go ape-shit under the influence of this stuff, we warned you. With tracks titles like: “Broken Bones and Bullet Holes”, “ Ungrateful Bastard”, “Expect The Worst”, “ Unburn”, and “ 13”, you can’t go wrong here.
The Last Van Zant is another high-speed and low-end distorted obliteration of your senses through trench warfare in a pit. You can smell the BO, feel the boots in your back and the feel of someone’s face going into your fist as you spin around in a drunken frenzy that’s worth the bruises and possible broken bones (whether they’re your or not). This band brings the energy and addictive rhythms of the great bands mentioned above already. “Standing in Blood” really brings me in with the phrase, “Don’t mind me…Standing in Blood”, that alone makes me want to swing and go hog wild and blitzkrieg on everything around me. Another six tracks of solid adrenaline and drunken anarchy, approach with caution.
Now for the last two essential contributions to this split, I give you The Parish. Nothing different here from the other two, you just get a more epic Coffins/Winter sounding doom/death sludge on “Dark Days”, just as nasty and filthy as the other two bands, but this one is the darker side of it all. Killer riffs and slow Sabbathy grooves with growling vocals behind the mix sounding like a zombie in the background, topped off with a melodic stoner feel as well. Smooth and steady, melodic, yet every bit as aggressive and dangerous as the other two bands, The Parish polishes off this absolutely essential three-way sludge fuck as only the truly awesome could. If you can drink this one straight, you are one of the few and truly grimy…bottoms up !!!!!!
Last Van Zant is a member or members of Birds of Prey on Relapse Records, Parish is a member of Wartorn. » view product details |

FISTULA "Goat" CD (digi)
Ohio is rotting. Fistula once again team up with Crucial Blast to deliver another heavy dose of their septic, filthy, lumbering death-sludge in the form of Goat, a five-song Ep of low-fi and low-end nihilistic filth and rabies-laced caveman thrash with songs based on the ghoulish discovery and subsequent investigation of the eleven decomposing bodies found in the Cleveland home of Anthony Sowell in the Autumn of 2009. This new disc delivers more of the pulverizing, slime-covered sludge and primitive death metal rot that these Buckeye barbarians have been carving out in the back of Medina garages over the past ten years, continuing to follow in the coagulated blood tracks of Frost, Autopsy and Winter, but filtered through Fistula's uniquely mangled and inebriated scum-haze and utterly negatory worldview.

FISTULA / MODORRA split LP
One exclusive 21 minutes long song by Fistula from a more experimental session teams up with filthy Old School Death Punk Slaughter by Swedish Modorra. Be prepared to f**king decay!
Review from MyLastChapter:
This is some truly ugly music, completely hammered to death by the ugly stick, with the ugly stick buried deep within the rectum of Modorra. It’s seldom you hear such magnificently dirty, raw and ugly music that doesn’t suck arse. ‘Cause this surely kicks arse. I can’t really describe the sound, but if you imagine Exhumed teaming up with Bile, gored by Heamorrhage, dissected by Impetigo and set in the world of the goriest, most horrific 70ies slasher flick… It’s old school goregrind and death metal in one, with some merciless vocals straight from the deepest abyss of a crazed cannibal’s bowels. Add to it all a dash of hardcore and punk (accentuated by the Limpwrist and Rupture covers). Yeah, I know my description might sound messed up, but so is the music these lads present. Trust me though, this is absolutely ace. The sound’s nasty and the riffing dirty, perfect for an old school gore assault. I couldn’t ask for more. It’s not polished like many other acts of the genre are today, but it sounds real. You can hear the love for the music. And might I add just a final note about the artwork – awesome!
While Modorra offered us ten tracks of old school gore, Fistula gives us one 21 minute long sludge tune. I can’t say I love it like I do with their Burdened by your existence album, ‘cause this has an industrial overtone I’m not really too fond of. After some minutes of a more ambient noise-like intro the riffing sets in. And what slow and heavy riffing it is… Together with the screeching noise of some industrial machine, or whatever, it builds up a cold and unwelcoming atmosphere. And this lack of warmth and empathy for life carries on as the rhythmic drumming and harsh screaming accompanies the riffing. And here you have a sludge song sure to please any fan of Corrupted, Noothgrush, or maybe even Dystopia. But give the tune some more minutes to develop, and what unfolds is some angst-filled riffing taking me back to the earlier days of doom, with Black Sabbath taking control of the guitars. The industrial overtone I mentioned is ever so present throughout the track, and adds a harshness to it. I think I might’ve liked it better without it, ‘cause it would’ve given the song a different spin towards agony instead. However, sludge and noise can go hand in hand, so it’s bound to get some listeners salivating.

GEISHA "Die Verbrechen der Liebe" CD (digi)
This hour-long, six track monolith follows Geisha into a psychedelic black storm, their blown-out and raw rock infused with a bone-rattling recording and covered in a thick sheen of white noise and gritty distortion. As with their previous album, the spirit of seminal noise rock / sludge rock (think Cherubs, Melvins, My Bloody Valentine's Isn't Anything for coordinates) is combined with violent, chaotic NOISE and tainted with blurred VHS cassette visions and vague allusions to BDSM, and then jammed through an orgone accumulator, forming a ferocious, crushing rock beast that reveals it's powerful hooks and melodies underneath the churning distorted bass rumble and sludgemetal riffage , blasts of psychedelic drone-noise and corrosive skree, percussive pummel, and deranged singing. The sound is immense, and the first five tracks on Die Verbrechen Der Liebe deliver Geisha's in-the-red heaviness and hooks in surplus. "Prelude To Amber Pays The Rent", "A Wilderness, Except By Sight", "Sportsfister" - every one is a crusher.
But then Geisha pull out the monstrous thirty-minute, thirty-five second closer "Theme From Diana", and the tone changes completely. This track is a re-working of a "metal percussion" set that Geisha originally performed live several years ago, and it begins as a slowly building fog of voices and effects and shimmering metal that blooms into an expanse of droning, fx-heavy guitar, looping samples, cosmic effects, and improvised percussion. It's a kind of rumbling industrial dronescape that stretches out forever, until suddenly in the last few minutes the drifting drones and psychedelic guitars and sampled voices suddenly explode in an immolating nuclear blast of overdriven, speaker-annhilating noise and the track immediately, terrifyingly changes shape into a monstrous lumbering noise-metal dirge that bulldozes out of your speakers, whooshing Hawkwind effects swooping overhead, the band knotted together into a white-hot blast of ultra heavy riffage, distortion, and a wall of percussive force. "Diana" is one of the most crushing pieces of music that I have ever heard from Geisha, like some majestic and brutal conglom of Swans, Skullflower, Merzbow, and Burmese forged into a destructive space-metal supernova.

GREY DATURAS "Dead In The Woods" CD
CRUCIAL BLAST is stoked to be re-issuing the colossal, previously out-of-print 2004 monsterpiece from the Melbourne, Australian trio GREY DATURAS. Originally released through the band's own Crashing Jets imprint, Dead In The Woods is a massive exhortation of lumbering metallic dirge, freely improvised amplifier noise and crushing riff splatter, and massive, sky-streaking psychedelic corrosion, travelling the speaker-shredding void between The Dead C, pulverizing sludge, and Skullflower's heaviest jams. The Crucial Blast re-issue of Dead In The Woods features a full remastering by Scott Hull at Visceral Sound, and will also come with a brand new packaging design via a 4-panel case printed by Stumptown Printers, in the vein of our other recent re-issues of crucial overseas heaviness from MONARCH! and YEAR OF NO LIGHT. » view product details |

GRUEL s/t 2xLP
Gruel are more crust than sludge, and possess a strong identity that pays worship to almost forgotten bands like Antisect and Icons of Filth. Their landscape-blasting mutation of pulsing dub-bass, crunching six-string doom-drenched grandiosity and hoarse rasps from the syphilis-riddled gob of the man in the cowl all mix up to spew forth some of the grimmest and most pulse racing music that these ears have heard in a long time. Crust-doom is reborn for the 21st century, and its name is Gruel. 40 minutes of condensed double lp – sheep jaw bones, booming drums, blood dripping from the ceiling, a very fine seven foot staff of gnarled oak and more dry ice than "Carry On Screaming" – this is what we fucking want!! Well, it's what I want. Everyone liked it or loved it. Gruel are the missing link I was looking for, successfully straddling Hammer films, heavy dub, British crust-punk of the eighties and Ingmar Bergman's "The Seventh Seal". Med-evil.
