ANIMAL HATE "Bells Of Acheron" CD
Debut full length of Czech black/death metal band.
Review from Metalzone:
So I got into my hands the CD Animal Hate – Bells Of Acheron. I know that it's a lot of good bands in our country so I was curious at this work.
The booklet didn't give me any clue about what music should I expect so I pushed the cake into the player eagerly and waited. For the start the melodic part and regrettably the very much distorted voice. I prefer the classical conception of the vocals (what you can do, you can do, but without the help of the smart machines) that follow later on the CD. It's superb how Animal Hate used the alternation of death metal vocals with black metal ones. Also their music I'd classify like death with the blend of black metal. But in case anyone is of another opinion I wouldn't argue. It's hard today to label any band with any style. As we all know, nobody has till now written any encyclopedia describing the division of the music styles that would moreover include all today's offshoots that developed.
And so we moved to the lyrics from Lubo¹ “Louis” Martinec that are really great and manage to tell something. It's evident that the author did know what he was writing about and didn't write just any cliché that would just supplement to the music. I personally value the lyrics of the bands very much and I think that bad lyrics can spoil the whole impression of the band. But it's not the case with Animal Hate where the lyrics (at least in my eyes) took up the band and won my admiration.
Well and in conclusion I kept the music of Animal Hate. It is really a well played death metal in which creeps the black metal with clear spontaneousness and doesn't disturb the overall impression from listening in any way. I'd just reprehend to the CD Bells Of Acheron that between the separate tracks the band inserted every time some prelude, or some intro, which divides the whole CD. The songs impact like one symmetric body and like complex that is just disintegrated through these beginnings of the songs. I don't know if it's intentional or not but perhaps it was meant to be so. Except this the songs reflect that the guys from Animal Hate are good musicians and have a clear idea about in which direction they want to go. » view product details |

ASGUARD "Black Fire Land" CD
Brutal, technical black/death metal from Belarus.
Review from Tartarean Desire:
After having spent some time developing their skills in melodic death metal the Belarus based band Asguard have now delved deep into symphonic black metal with their second album "Black Fire Land". Unlike many other Eastern European bands who have chosen to walk a more primitive and "true" path, their music is well produced and contains plenty of keyboards and melodies in the vein of early Emperor and Old Man's Child. Once in a while you can also trace some minor Cradle Of Filth tendencies but they are rather few and rare. The album begins with a very nice intro followed by some fast, melodic and intense riffing. Even though this is more or less a low budget recording compared to modern standards Asguard have been careful to see to that everything can be heard in the music. Every instrument is in its right place and the melodies have been lifted to the front. Asguard may be able to compete with the leading bands in their genre in due time but right now there is in particular one thing missing to take them to the top as the vocals lack in both power and performance. It is only in "War", an old track from their 1997 demo "In The Darkness Of The Night", that the vocals sound really good. They could progress in the song writing process as well but the material presented on this album is still stronger than average. The melodic opener, the melodic death metal riffing meets Cradle Of Filth symphonies in "Eternal Dream", the very fast and powerful keyboard / guitar combination in "Bloody Hate..." and the riff-happy "War" are the highlights from this album. Something worth mentioning is also the inclusion of their Manowar cover "Metal Warriors" which however doesn't mean much to me as it is, even in its original version, a boring and far from impressive song. Recommended to fans of melodic black and death metal. » view product details |

ASGUARD "Dreamslave" CD
Third full length of this Belarusian death/black/gothic band!
Review from Metal-March Magazine:
Asguard are back and I have to say, I was quite interested in checking out their new work. I found their debut album entitled "Black Fire Land" to be quite interesting, and it was certainly nice to see a band that showed a lot of promise from a country which is not exactly known for its Metal traditions (Belarus).
I heard a great deal of compliments about "Dreamslave", but when they come from people who work closely with the band you're not sure if they are really true. Nonetheless, I already had this band in my good graces, so I didn't really doubted it. The thing is, I wasn't expecting the new album to be this good! Or different, to be more accurate, but I'll get back to that in a second.
Their music style is still Black Metal, but "Dreamslave" presents us a different approach, or so that is my opinion. It seems the boys were seduced by the symphonic side of Black Metal, which is something that I found particulary interesting. In fact, it's a shame there aren't that many bands following the same path these days.
Asguard are very talented, I can't say that enough. They are skilled musicians and I found the harsh vocals to be quite good as well, something that not all bands of the genre are able to achieve.
The album is divided in four acts with a total of 16 tracks. The songs are not very big, but at least they didn't add a bunch os instrumental tracks just to fill this up. A total of 50 minutes of well played music is definitely worth the money paid for it.
If you still want to check a few songs to get the taste of it, fortunately there's plenty to choose from here. Nonetheless, "Dreamslave" and "Crash or Hope" are my favourites here and perfect examples of the quality from this band from Belarus. And I have nothing else to add, this band rocks! » view product details |

ASGUARD "Wikka" CD
Second full length of this technical black/gothic/death metal band from Belarus!
Review from Dark Symphonies:
COLD, unapologetic Black Metal with symphonic undertones. This is Asguard's true debut, but is only now being released worldwide with bonus tracks, new cover art and completely remastered. The original release was only available on cassette and only in Belarus / Russia. It is cold and depressing there and that's the very reason why this band is comprised of incredibly talented young musicians that bang the hell out of their instruments. Vicious pummeling and Iron Maiden-esque riffs define this debut metal masterpiece. Think primitive Emperor or Old Mans Child, but with more grit and more guitars, bass and drums. Asguard are poised to run with extreme metal's very elite. » view product details |

BABY.STAB.HORROR "In the Name of Satan" CD
Black/Death Metal for fans of Dimmu Borgir, Vader and Behemoth.
Not completely black metal, but not exactly death metal either (nor is it really blackened death, but it's close), "In the Name of Satan" by Massachusetts' BABY STAB HORROR is a tight, punishing, and groovy sophomore effort. Besides, with a name like BABY STAB HORROR and a title like "In the Name of Satan" you probably already figured out that the style isn't Christian metalcore and the lyrics are about a thousand miles south of a MILEY CYRUS album.
Bands such as BEHEMOTH, VADER, and DIMMU BORGIR get thrown around by label folks as "for fans of" reference points, which is not as far off as it may seem after time spent with "In the Name of Satan". It basically boils down to a thick, riff-based death/thrash approach (ala VADER and BEHEMOTH) with sections that fuse the evil with the majestic — emphasized by some electronic elements — in a decidedly blackened sort of way (ala DIMMU BORGIR). Those are general comparisons though, as BABY STAB HORROR is a relatively unique entity, even if the influences are easily identified.
What really makes "In the Name of Satan" go is a kind of industrial-metal propulsion not unlike that heard on PLAGUE BRINGER's "Life Songs in a Land of Death", except that the grind elements aren't there. It is more in the way the guitar lines are wrapped tightly around the drum blasting. The raspy (and decipherable) vocals — periodically offset with death growls, some damn creepy spoken word bits (e.g. "Exhibit A [The Letter to the Parents]"), and even the occasional backing shout — are a big part of the album's black metal sounds. More importantly, the rapid fire delivery of the raspy singing and the growls are perfectly patterned and enunciated, a difficult feat, considering the predominantly quick pacing. The compact (not compressed) sound has a real kick to it and the nefarious aura is pervasive as well.
The combination of those hard-driving, hell-on-wheels rhythms with the unit's smart use of memorable riffs that emphasize head-bang worthiness over technicality and a knack for penning some pretty good melodies (check out "Annihilation Has Come" and "Vitriolic Message of Hate") make "In the Name of Satan" a robust affair. It is one of those albums that will probably go unnoticed by far too many people. Those lucky enough to stumble upon it may be pleasantly surprised. (Blabbermouth) » view product details |

BEGRIME EXEMIOUS "Impending Funeral of Man" CD

9. I, Iconoclast 05:44
Review from Diabolical Conquest:
Begrime Exemious is a ghastly Canadian horde that has only been around since 2005 but has released a demo, the excellent Set Ablaze The Kingdom Of Abraham EP and now their full-length debut, Impending Funeral Of Man. The former now merely a battle cry for the full on assault of the more diverse and fully realized full-length effort. Begrime Exemious seems poised to make a major impression with this release as it continues both the success of Canadian extreme metal bands and the upstart Dark Descent Records - the label having released the excellent Rituals of the Grotesque demo by Burial Invocation earlier this year.
Begrime Exemious combines the best aspects of Demilich, Grand Belial's Key and even a little Argholsent to form their bulking brand of metal. The reason I think those bands are particularly apt as comparisons is because not only do they fit in terms of style and genre, but like those bands, Begrime Exemious is a unique, riff-first type of band. I am not sure about you, but when I think metal, my first thought is always the riffs - a surprisingly significant flaw of a lot of bands these days. But Begrime Exemious has riffs in abundance and a style that carefully balances subtle melody with hefty brutality and really sets them apart from a lot of other metal practitioners.
The primary attack of the band is the way they seamlessly shift from charging, often times bouncy rhythms (think Argholsent and Grand Belial's Key) to a heavier, sometimes jerky delivery (think Demilich). The other thing that really separates the band from their death metal peers is how they effectively incorporate other key metal elements with this attack. The band has a skillful way of allowing the bluesy, bounce of "Ancient Crypts Asunder" to slam straightaway into its doom-y follow-up passage or have the eerie, arpeggiated atmosphere of "Sanctum Sanctorum" serve as the backdrop to its charging rhythms. Also, like a lot of the Canadian extreme metal bands, Begrime Exemious is a little chaotic in their delivery. This chaos and a highly varied drum performance makes the material here incredibly urgent with regards to how the songs twist and dip as the band strings together all of their riffs. Throw in some severely catchy riffs (see "Filthy Sodomite Of Christ" and highlight "Psalmody Of Sacrificial Blaze") and the whole album will quickly bury its rusty barbed and tetanus-infected hooks into your cerebrum.
The most significant flaw on the album is the production. It carries enough weight to make the material here hit sufficiently hard, but it also gets really mushy in spots where the rigidity of what the band is playing is lost. My biggest gripe has to do with the production on the drums, which is really a damn shame because the performance is excellent, but the toms sound like shit and almost disappear in places while the snare has that "metallic" sound that may turn some of you off. The production overall is by no means horrible or even terribly bothersome, and I hope the actual CD sounds better than the MP3s I currently have, but I think the production is not as crisp and as ballsy as it should have been and robs the material enough to mention it here.
Impending Funeral Of Man is exactly how I want a metal album to be and is precisely what I needed over the last few weeks. I had some time to reflect on things over that time, and when I really look back at all the albums I have reviewed, it amazed me how so many bands are so eager to send over new band photos, paragraphs of promotional hyperbole, logo-filled stickers, patches and other merchandise, which I realize is all necessary to promote an album properly, yet too many of those bands fail at what really sells an album: the riffs. Well, there are no gimmicks, distractions or useless info here. Impending Funeral Of Man takes six strings, a pick and cloaks the results in grimy death. » view product details |

BETWEEN THE FROST "Reales Of Desolation" CD
Long awaited second album of this Spanish great Black/Death Metal band!! 10 Tracks of true and raw Black/Death in the vein of bands like Abigor or Dissection!! Mastered by Andy Laroque!
Biography:
Between the Frost was created at the end of
1993, as a powerful band of melodic Black-Death metal. JM (guitars), who came
from another Black Metal band, and Asier (drums), began this project, that was
something that they have in their minds for a long time. Then, C. de
Castellarnau joined the band as second guitar player, and their began to
rehearsal and the first songs were written. Not to much later, Román, brother of
JM, and coming from a Death Metal band, joined the band also, and put voice to
the songs. In August 1996, after a lot of rehearsals and been totally
satisfied with the songs, 5 of them were recorded in a home studio, as a try to
get the attention of the labels. That became the very first demo of the band.
Not satisfied with the result, in January 1997 re-recorded the demo, this time
in a professional recording studio, and again, C. de Castellarnau recorded the
bass lines. After that, the band asked to David Valdés to join the band as a
session bass player for live performances. This second recording made that
Abstract Emotions and the band began to talk, and the label edited the band..s
debut album “Instinc of Surliness” redorded in 1997, and edited in the summer of
1998. After that, Alberto joined the band as the replacement of David
Valdés. After several concerts, C. de Castellarnau left the band because of a
dissapointments in music interests, and David Valdés re-joined the band as a
provisional replacement.
They began to play live with this formation, but a few shows later, David
Valdés took the decision to dedicate all of his time to his own project, and
left the band. At this time, BTF began to work in new songs, having in mind the
coming of the second album. Unfortunatelly, Abstract Emotions dissappeared as a
record label, and the band began to search again a new label.
In June 2002, David M. joined the band, giving a thread of hope in the future
of BTF, and the band get prepared for the new recording and the upcoming
concerts.
Two years later, in 2004, the band finishes the recording of the new album,
that has been delayed a long time due a lot of problems. Finally, at the
beginings of 2005 Andy LaRocque, King Diamond..s guitarist, mastered the album
at LosAngered Studios (Sweden), being all prepared for the publishing of “Realms
of Desolation”.
The band began the hard work to find a new record label, and after a couple
of concerts, David M. left the band due a personal reasons, becoming a near
helping hand in promotion, production and a good friend.
After some rehearsals with different guitarists the band plays two shows with
a session member at the guitar. The band take the decision to find an official
member that fills the philosophy of Between The Frost, and in August 2006, Iosue
(ex-member of Argar, a Black Metal band from Barcelona) becames a part of the
band.
After a very long searching, and with the help of Dave Rotten (Avulsed,
Xtreem Music), the band finally find a new record label, Grotesque Music, who
will publish the next two albums of Between The Frost. So, a new hope of future
is open for the band. » view product details |

BLACKHORNED " Lost In A Twilight World" CD
Occult Black/Thrashing Metal from Denmark (featuring Victimizer member) on Undercover-Records, Germany.
Blackhorned was formed by Atziilûth in mid 2001 in the dark city of Svendborg, Denmark.
In late November 2001 the first demo Satan was recorded, but due to a bad sound and sloppy songs, only very few copies was made of this.
In mid April 2002 the second demo Demonic Domain was recorded and this demo showed a much better recording and much darker tracks. It was released on tape with Satan on the b-side.
Later that year, in July-August 2002, the third demo Troops of Death was recorded and released.
Troops of Death showed a big step forward in production and song writing and together with Demonic Domain these demos gave Blackhorned some attention in the black metal underground.
In February 2003 Blackhorned recorded the full length demo-cd Infernal Journey, which was a brutal hammering black/thrash metal release, and gave Blackhorned even more attention and many cool reviews.
In the fall of 2003 the small studio where all the recordings had been made, was closed down for a period and Atziluth then had to use the equipment as a mobile studio and the first full length album was to be recorded in a rehearsal room. The album was finished off in late October 2003 and even though the album got a quite distorted and not that good sound, due to the bad recording facilities it had some killer tracks. The album was titled Arrival of the Firedemon and Austrian Pesttod Records released a promo cd-r version of it, but a few months later Pesttod suddenly closed down.
In August 2005 Arrival of the Firedemon finally got a pro release on Columbian label Goathorned Production. 3 years after its recording! This version contains bonus tracks from the Infernal Journey cd-r as this also represent material form 2003.
Meanwhile, during the summer of 2005, the studio was running again and Blackhorned had recorded a promo EP called The Night time Graveyard to prove the progress of Blackhorned. This EP is meant to be released as a 7 vinyl some time.
This year of 2006 will see the release of Blackhorneds second full length album called Dawn of Doom also on cd by Goathorned Productions. This time with a good and brutal production and will be the best release from Blackhorned to date!! » view product details |
